North

northThe North falls into two distinct areas, the plains of the lower north from Nakhon Sawan to Sukhothai provinces, and the mountainous upper north leading to borders of Myanmar and Laos. The mountain ranges along the borders are breathtaking, with waterfalls and fast-flowing rivers. They are also the home of many ethnic hill people. During the cold season, the North is a place where one can witness seas of fog, fields of sunflowers and forests of romantic needle pines. It also offers lush rain forests, waterfalls and rapids waiting to be conquered. At lower altitudes, the North is abundant with a number of rivers bringing life to the region. It is home to rice fields, tea plantations and green vegetable beds stacked in terraces among tranquil hills. Northern provinces especially Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Lampang and Mae Hong Son had been chosen in the past as locations for major feature films, which, among a few, include “Air America,” “The American Gangster” and “Rambo IV.”
